When you consider giving some type of Music lessons to your children, the PIANO should be your first choice.
Here are a few reasons to consider why making PIANO your first choice is wise and shows you have you children's best interest at heart.
1) Pianos are easy to touch the keys and make sound come out.
As opposed to the fret board on a guitar - where a young person has to grip their small hands around a large piece of wood called a fret board and then press down on strings which bite int o their hands. Sure rock banks look impressive but in reality, the discomfort that comes from playing a guitar is not normal and most children will quit after a short experience.
2) With so many keys at their disposal, kids love pressing down the keys and hearing sounds instantly and get gratification right from the start. There is no pain or biting grip like the guitar.
3) The piano keyboard is so wide parents can play along with the child and make learning a group effort.
4) Children can express true emotions such as loud and soft expressions in the very beginning experiences at the piano.
5) Children will develop a sense music awareness - hearing what a teacher does or parent does and being able to imitate what they are hearing.
6) A child's sense of pitch and tracking notes as they go higher and lower are made more apparent solely by the layout of a keyboard and the natural progression of learning keyboard geography.
7) Piano skills and the reading of music based on a C instrument are transferable meaning a child does not have to transpose / change keys to read and hear the accurate notes. Flute and Violin are 2 instruments which read and sound out literally as written.
8) The ability to play and hear patterns and recognize patterns in music notation are made more logical in teaching from a piano whereas a C major scale or arpeggio.
My dad was a wise father in that he negotiated with all five of his children that if we would start at the piano and stay with it for a year and learn how to read music and develop appropriate skills, he would buy or rent us any other instrument we wanted.
